Refund and Replacement Policy

At Mindful Sudoku, we're committed to both customer satisfaction and environmental responsibility. Our return process is designed to be straightforward while minimizing our carbon footprint.

1. Damaged or Defective Items (all customers)

We accept returns and provide refunds or replacements for items that arrive damaged or defective. We do not accept returns for undamaged products you no longer want, except for EU customers exercising their statutory right of withdrawal (see Section 2).

  • Reporting window: 14 days from delivery.
  • Evidence required: a clear photo or video showing the damage.
  • No return shipping required: to reduce carbon emissions and packaging waste, we typically do not require you to ship the damaged item back. We'll let you know if return shipping is needed.
  • Resolution: at your choice, a full refund to the original payment method or a replacement product.

What qualifies:

  • Products that arrive damaged or defective
  • Items that don't function as intended due to manufacturing defects
  • Products damaged during shipping

What doesn't qualify under this section:

  • Undamaged products you no longer want (EU customers, see Section 2)
  • Items that have been used (e.g., puzzles completed or written in)
  • Sale items and gift cards

How to report: Email us at hello@mindfulsudoku.com with your order number, a photo or video of the damage, and a brief description. We'll respond within 2 business days.

2. EU Right of Withdrawal (customers in the European Union)

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you have a statutory right under EU Directive 2011/83/EU (as amended by Directive 2023/2673) to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days without giving any reason. This right is in addition to the damaged-item policy in Section 1.

Withdrawal period. The 14-day period begins on the day you (or a third party you designate, other than the carrier) acquire physical possession of the goods. If your order is delivered in multiple shipments, the period begins on the day you receive the last item.

How to exercise your right of withdrawal. Inform us of your decision by an unambiguous statement before the 14-day period expires. You can do this by:

  • Clicking the "Cancel or withdraw order" button in our website footer or in your customer account, or
  • Completing and submitting our model withdrawal form, or
  • Emailing us at hello@mindfulsudoku.com with your name, order number, and a statement that you are withdrawing.

We'll send you an email confirming receipt of your withdrawal request without delay.

Effects of withdrawal. We will reimburse all payments received from you, including the cost of standard delivery (excluding any supplementary costs from delivery options other than the least expensive standard option we offer). Reimbursement will be made:

  • Within 14 days of the day we receive the returned goods, or 14 days from the day you supply evidence that you have returned them, whichever is earlier.
  • Using the same payment method as your original transaction, with no fees from the reimbursement.

We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you supply evidence of return shipment, whichever is earlier.

Send them without undue delay and no later than 14 days from the day you communicated your withdrawal. The deadline is met if you send the goods before the 14-day period expires.

Return shipping costs. You will bear the direct cost of returning the goods. ⚠️ Please note that our return address is in the United States; international return shipping from the EU may be costly. You may wish to consider this before exercising your right of withdrawal.

Diminished value. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from handling beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics, and functioning. For example, reading the book is fine; writing in the puzzles reduces resale value and may reduce your refund proportionally.

Exceptions to the right of withdrawal. Under EU law, the right of withdrawal does not apply to goods made to your specifications or clearly personalized, sealed goods unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons (if unsealed after delivery), or digital content supplied without a tangible medium where performance began with your express consent. None of these exceptions apply to our standard sudoku books.

3. Refunds

Once we approve your return or withdrawal, refunds are issued to your original payment method. Allow 5–10 business days for the refund to appear, depending on your bank. If more than 15 business days have passed since approval, please contact us at hello@mindfulsudoku.com.

4. Our Eco-Friendly Approach

For damaged or defective items, we typically don't require return shipping. This helps reduce carbon emissions, minimize packaging waste, and support our broader sustainability goals. (For EU withdrawal under Section 2, EU law requires return of the goods or proof of return shipment before refund.)
